What is FREEDOM FOR BIRTH?

Freedom for Birth is a 58 minute campaigning documentary about the abuse of human rights in childbirth around the world.

The film tells the powerful story of Agnes Gereb, a Hungarian midwife imprisoned for helping to give women choice in birth. The film tells how a Hungarian mother, Anna Ternovzsky, who wanted a home birth with Agnes, took her country to the European Court of Human Rights and won a landmark case which might have changed the world!

Also in the film are over 40 of the world's leading birth experts including:

Ina May Gaskin, Sheila Kitzinger, Sarah Buckley, Robbie Davis-Floyd and Michel Odent.

When is the FREEDOM FOR BIRTH Global Screening Event 2013?

September 2013 - anytime during that month.

Before / after September 2013, normal screening license prices apply - £30/$47.50 for an unlimited Public Screening License Upgrade that allows for unlimited public screenings and also allows you to use the DVD for educational use. Available here

Where can I host a screening?

Anywhere! Your living room, local cafe, community centre, university lecture room or even you can hire a cinema?

What do I need?

1. You need a FREEDOM FOR BIRTH DVD 

2. You also need a Public Screening September 2013 license for $10.00 / £6.50

*(PLEASE NOTE: If you have already purchased an FFB Upgrade or a Public Screening / Educational DVD you do not need to buy this additional license.)

Any other costs?

Aside from the purchase of a DVD and Sept 2013 public screening license for $10.00, you may also need to pay for venue hire, projection facilities, publicity materials, phone calls etc

Can I sell tickets?

Yes. You can sell tickets. Or you can collect donations.

All the money goes to you or you can fundraise for a local cause.

How do I hold a screening in September 2013?

1. If you don't already have a FREEDOM FOR BIRTH DVD, you need to buy one now.

2. You also need to buy a Public Screening September 2013 license for $10.00.

When you buy a license, you will receive a free event tool-kit and marketing guide that tells you the 5 Easy Steps to hold a screening. Follow the steps and hold a screening. Simple.

How do I market the screening?

The license also includes a free event tool-kit and marketing guide telling you the 5 Easy Steps to holding a successful screening. The screening kit includes print-ready poster and postcards to print at your local copy shop to publicise the event

You can use social media -you can blog about it, tweet, share, stick images up on Pinterest - use social media like crazy! You can send out email invites.

You can put up posters and hand out fliers. You can simply use word of mouth and tell people face to face!

What about posters to advertise the screening?

Can I release FREEDOM FOR BIRTH myself over the Internet?

No! You cannot release the film yourself over the Internet or to copy or duplicate DVDs or to sell "rights" to TV or anything else that we would consider to be a serious breach of copyright.

Different language versions?

The film has been translated into 17 languages: English, Bulgarian, Chinese, Croatian, Dutch, French, German, Greek, Hungarian, Italian, Polish, Portuguese (Portugal), Portuguese (Brazilian), Russian, Slovak, Slovenian and Spanish.

To play the film with subtitles, go to the main menu then please select “subtitle” button on your remote control and choose the language.

PAL or NTSC discs?

PAL is the DVD format for UK, Europe, Australia etc

NTSC is the DVD format for US, Canada, Japan etc

Can I have a screening before or after September 2013?

Yes. Before / after September 2013, normal screening license prices apply - £30/$47.50 for an unlimited Public Screening License Upgrade that also allows you to use the DVD for educational use. Available here

If you don't already have the DVD, then you will also need to buy the DVD.

Can I use the DVD for educational use?

Yes. If you want to use the DVD for Educational use (within a small educational class), then if you have the DVD already, you can buy an upgrade for £30/$47.50 which allows you to do unlimited public screenings and to use the DVD for educational use. Available here.

If you don't already have the DVD, then you can buy a Public Screening / Educational Use DVD for £50.00 / $80.00 here.

My Library/University wants to use the DVD

Great! As this would be for institutional use, your library or university can buy an Institutional copy for £100.00 / $160.00.

Why host a screening?

This is a call to action. We want to bring worldwide attention to the many childbirth Human Rights violations happening around the world.

We want all women to be fully informed of their birth choices. We want all women to be supported in their choice of how and where they give birth.

To be a catalyst for local action for global change.

To show how midwives, doulas, and educators help women have fully informed choice.

To inspire expectant mothers to have the birth they want!

To build bridges with the local community.

To educate local health professionals including OB/GYNs about the long-term benefits of physiological birth.
