FAQ
What is FREEDOM FOR BIRTH?
Freedom for Birth is a 58 minute campaigning documentary about the abuse of human rights in childbirth around the world. Please go to the ABOUT page to find out about the film and the filmmakers behind FREEDOM FOR BIRTH.
When is the FREEDOM FOR BIRTH première launch?
There will be over 1,000 world première screenings of the film all across the globe the same day/night!
So SAVE THE DATE: THURSDAY 20th SEPTEMBER 2012
Can I have a screening before 20th September 2012?
Sorry, but no. It is essential that the première launch becomes a huge global event in order to create the biggest possible impact around the world. If the film is screened anywhere before that date, then the event loses all impact.
So please, no public screenings before 20th September. If you do have a public screening before 20th September, we will view the screening as a breach of copyright.
Can I release the film on the Internet myself?
Again, sorry, but you cannot release the film yourself over the Internet or to copy or duplicate DVDs or to sell "rights" to TV or anything else that we would consider to be a serious breach of copyright.
We will be releasing a Web version of the film for free viewing on the Internet shortly after the Première event.
Who can host a FREEDOM FOR BIRTH première screening?
Anyone, anywhere can host a première screening of FREEDOM FOR BIRTH. The whole point is to get people showing the film in their own communities.
Why should I host a première screening?
We are harnessing the power of the Internet to make this campaign a global viral phenomenon. But we want to start in the real world and get people talking to one another. The Conversation is a key part of the campaign and you can read more about it on our ABOUT page.
When will it be released over the Internet?
A few weeks after the 20th September (exact date TBC), we will release a shorter version of the film (15-20 mins) over the internet for free. Our plan is that you and all the people who came to your screening will be our online film champions. We want you to vocally champion the film via social media, helping us spread the word to create a worldwide buzz. We want to have endorsement by celebrities and key influential figures - so with them onboard and with your help, millions of people will see the film. Our sincere hope is that the film becomes a catalyst for worldwide change.
Where can I host a première screening?
It's completely up to you. It can be as big or as small as you like. You can host a screening in your living room, or hold it in a local cafe or community centre or even hire a cinema! You may incur costs for hiring a venue which will be your responsibility but to cover these costs, you can sell tickets for the event or sell drinks /foods or ask for donations.
Do I need to pre-order/buy a Freedom For Birth DVD first?
Yes, in order to have a film to screen, you need to have something to screen from!
HOWEVER, premiere screening DVDs are no longer available. But you will be able to watch a FREE web version when it comes out in October, or you can buy the full-length ENGLISH LANGUAGE version here. An updated subtitled version will be released in October.
Does it cost to have a Première screening?
If you purchase a Premiere Hard-Copy DVD or Premiere Digital Download (BIRTH CHAMPION OR BIRTH HERO or BIRTH STAR) options, it automatically comes with a FREE public screening license.
If you purchased a PERSONAL Digital Download DVD from the IndieGoGo campaign, then this does not include a public screening license - however, you can upgrade to receive a public screening license and the right to have a premiere screening!
The cost is $15.00 and you will be emailed a public screening license and a screening kit.
Contact us on our One World Birth site if you wish to upgrade.
How do I market a première screening?
It's all in the FREEDOM FOR BIRTH screening kit - which will be emailed to you in July after you have bought a Public Screening copy of the DVD!
The screening kit includes print-ready poster and postcards to print at your local copy shop to publicise the event.
Press release sample guides to adapt to promote your screening. A marketing and event toolkit.
You can use social media -you can blog about it, tweet, share, stick images up on Pinterest - use social media like crazy!
You can send out email invites.
You can put up posters and hand out fliers.
You can simply use word of mouth and tell people face to face!
Can I sell tickets to the première screening?
Yes, you can either sell tickets or you can make the screening free. It's completely up to you.
When will I receive the DVD/digital download?
We will dispatch the digital downloads and hard-copy DVDs at the end of August / beginning of September so you'll receive them in plenty of time for your screening.
Can I have more than one première screening on Thursday 20th September?
You can have as may screenings as you like. The whole point of this event is to spread the word to as many people as possible
Will I be able to buy a FREEDOM FOR BIRTH DVD after the Indiegogo campaign ends?
Yes. Now that our IndieGoGo campaign has ended, The FREEDOM FOR BIRTH DVD / digital download is now available to buy from this site.
Can I hold a public screening after the film has been released on the Internet?
Yes. Only the short version of the film will be released for free over the Internet.
As the DVD / digital download will contain the long 40-50 minute version of the film, then it might be an idea to publicly screen the long version with content that hasn't been viewed on the internet.
I am part of an organisation and we want to organise lots of premiere screenings?
Then yes, absolutely, wonderful! Either pre-order a Premiere DVD/download for each screening - or email us from our One World Birth contact page and we'll sort out details for a multiple première package!
What if someone else wants to host a screening in the same town/city/street?
Great, the more the merrier. Everyone has different circles of friends and networks, and each of those friends have their own networks, so it's not competing, it's enhancing! So we want as many people as possible to host screenings, even if it means next-door neighbours host screenings! Imagine the energy and buzz of multiple screenings in the same town /city / street on the same night -magical!
Different language versions?
We're going to create an English language transcript and then we will be asking for "volunteers" to translate the film into their own language for no financial fee but they will be credited in the film.
PAL or NTSC?
PAL is the DVD format for UK, Europe, Australia etc
NTSC is the DVD format for US, Canada, Japan etc
If you choose a hard-copy DVD option, we will send you the DVD format suitable for your country.
Can I buy additional DVDs to sell at the screening?
Please let us know if you are interested in selling DVDs at your screening. Click here for our One World Birth CONTACT page.
